In A Shimmer in the Dark you will play a group of workers on an oil rig in the North Sea. Under pressure from environmental activists and facing the depletion of fossil fuel resources on Earth, deep-sea drilling is coming to an end. The workers are having their final shift on the oil rig, uncertain about what lies ahead; In a more and more automated world, the need for human labour is diminishing. A Shimmer in the Dark is speculative climate fiction that imagines a world at the end of petroleum extraction and human labour, addressing our relationship with the unknown.

Sophie Allerding (she/they) is an interdisciplinary artist focused on storytelling and crafting experiences that foster meaningful encounters. The central theme in ➫ Sophie’s work is the evolving relationship between humans and their environment in light of the planetary crisis.Rooted in world building and speculative fiction, Sophie employs various media such as role-playing games, audio/visuals, and radio to unravel the multifaceted nature of our shared reality. Sophie is active in the feminist collectives POSSY and Radio Echo Collective and part of .zip-space, an artist-run interdisciplinary project space in Rotterdam.
